$10,000 Grant Awarded to Provide Run-In Shelters for Sanctuary Horses
Linn Creek, MO—The Missouri Forget-Me-Not Horse Rescue and Sanctuary today announced that it has received a $10,000 grant from the Karen Jean Rudek Foundation to build several run-in shelters on the MFMN property in Linn Creek, to support its mission of providing food, shelter and medical care to neglected and at-risk horses. The grant was administered through the Community Foundation of the Lake. Karen Rudek was a local woman who loved her dogs and horses. She bequeathed her estate to set up a foundation to support horse and dog shelters, sanctuaries and rescues in the local communities of Camden, Miller and Morgan counties.
“We are so grateful to the Community Foundation of the Lake for providing us with this grant,” said Connie Hendrix, Founder. “These funds will help us be able to provide needed shelter from the weather for the horses in our large pasture, which generally holds 20 or more horses.”
About Missouri Forget-Me-Not Horse Rescue and Sanctuary
Missouri Forget-Me-Not Horse Rescue and Sanctuary was established by Connie Hendrix and a small group of friends when they were faced with a growing number of neglected and abandoned horses in their community. MFMN was established as a non-profit animal welfare organization whose mission is to “provide aid and sanctuary to abused, neglected, abandoned or donated horses that come to them in need.
Since 2011, MFMN has taken in 536 horses, with 324 adoptions to date. The Sanctuary and affiliated network of foster homes currently shelter 122 horses. Horses that can be rehabilitated and ridden are available for adoption to approved homes. MFMN has minimal administrative costs, and is a 100 percent volunteer organization. MFMN was accredited by the Global Federation of Animal Sanctuaries (GFAS) in 2016, and it is a member of the Homes for Horses Coalition. The main source of support for MFMN is private donations and various fundraisers that are held throughout the year.
