Barn Raising at MFMN

Thanks to a very generous donor, MFMN is constructing a Hay Barn on the MFMN property.  This is a Godsend, as the Sanctuary has not been able to store hay in the past, which has caused excessively high hay costs in the winter months.  Now with this Hay Barn, MFMN can buy and store hay in the fall when the prices are lower and feed the horses this hay throughout the winter.  This will save MFMN thousands of dollars each year.

We will need to raise money to purchase the hay to fill this barn.  Please help us fill the barn by donating the cost of a bale of hay.  Thanks.

Southern Missouri is home to the Missouri Forget Me Not Horse Rescue and Sanctuary

Near the Lake of the Ozarks, Missouri Forget Me Not Horse Rescue and Sanctuary provides refuge for horses in peril.  Many were abandoned with no safe place to go.  Others were rescued off trucks bound for slaughter in Mexico.

It started with only a couple horses.  As word grew, calls continued to come in about injured or sickly horses that needed a rescue's help to survive.  Even requests from local law enforcement had to be accounted for.  Now, Missouri Forget Me Not Horse Rescue and Sanctuary has over 75 horses, peacocks, goats and pigs just to name a few of the animals in its care.

7th Annual Run For The Horses Event is Another Great Success for the Horses

The 7th annual 5/10 K Run For the Horses was held on Saturday, June 22. The number of racers registered continues to increase once again this year. Linn Creek offers a great venue to hold a race as the Start/Finish Line is adjacent to the Linn Creek City Park pavilion, which offers shelter before and after the race in the event of rain or extremely hot weather. The racecourse is level & shady offering the racers a challenging but achievable course.

Overcast skies throughout the race provided a comfortable course for the racers. Two of our rescues mini horses, Pixie & Wesley, participated at the beginning of the race, but returned early due to a greater desire to eat the rich grass in the park.

Registered racers ranging in ages from 14 to 70 participated in the race. The overall men’s 5k winner was Tucker Seise with a time of 18.4 minutes. The overall women’s 5K winner was Toni Eaton with a time of 23.9.  The men’s 10K winner was Pete Groce with a time of 49.56; the women’s winner was Syntesa Taylor with a time of 1:08.55.  (For all race results see link below.)

Special recognition goes to Kim Sovcik. Kim wanted her friend, Christina Wilson, whose foot injury is awaiting a doctor’s clearance, to resume running to compete. Kim pushed Christina in a wheelchair over the entire 10K racecourse finishing in a time of 1:35.47. Unbelievable!

The funds from this event help pay for medical care and feed for the many horses that are sheltered at the farm.  Thanks to all our participants, volunteers and especially our sponsors - CarStar, Dorf & Fisher CPA's, Duncan Jewelers, Infinite Touch, Kilpatrick Farms, and Save A Lot, for making this another successful event.

2nd Annual Porto Cima Golf Tournament is Huge Success!!

This year's 2nd Annual Porto Cima Golf Tournament saw 100 players enjoying perfect summer golf weather.  The course was in pristine condition and there were lots of fun events, including the Hulett Chevrolet Buick GMC Hole-in-One 2018 Chevy Cruze prize contest on Hole #3, and additional Hole-in-One prizes on all Par 3's.  In addition to the closest to the pin contests, and longest drive contests, this year's tournament included a putting contest with the prize of 4 rounds of golf at Porto Cima valued at $920 going to the player who came closest to the hole.  First & second place prizes were awarded to each of three flights.

Players enjoyed chips, salsa & spiked lemonade courtesy of Chili's on Hole #18, and Rum Daiquiris on Hole #15, courtesy of Malibu Rum.  Budweiser products were provided in coolers on the course and in the Club House courtesy of our beverage sponsor - Missouri Eagle, LLC.  We also want to thank our Gold Sponsors - Scott's Concrete, Slumberland Furniture, Kelly's Port, Joe & Roxie Nieroda, and an anonymous donor, for their generous support of this event.  Special thanks also to our Silver Sponsor - Janet Bischler, who was honoring her adopted horse Flash.

We also want to thank the tournament committee:  Janet & Wayne Bischler, Katie & John Thorman, Sharon & Steve Konuch and Joe & Roxie Nieroda for organizing this event, and all of the MFMN volunteers and The Club at Porto Cima staff for working so hard to make it a success.

Record Turnout for 2018 Run With the Horses 5K/10K Walk/Run

Forty runners and walkers, including many from outside the Lake area, showed up in Linn Creek on Saturday to participate in the Run with the Horses 5K/10K benefiting the Missouri Forget-Me-Not Horse Rescue & Sanctuary (Facebook page). The heat, humidity and absence of any air movement in Linn Creek's valley made for a brutally tough run. Thank heaven for the flat course and shade along it, as they made the race (barely) bearable.

The overall men's and women's 10K winners were Joel Reed of St. Robert and Michelle Rador of Springfield in 47:27 and 57:57, respectively. This appears to be the first time that Michelle's raced at the Lake, but Joel's is a familiar face. He's raced Bridge & Dam the last two years, taking second this year in the All In challenge behind Payton Bartlett, and he ran the Ha Ha Half Marathon in early May.

Thanks to all the volunteers who helped with this event, all of the participants who supported this event and our wonderful sponsors - Infinite Touch Integrative Therapies, Dorf & Fisher, CPA's and Save-A-Lot.  We also want to thank Pixie and Tiny, the two miniature horses, that ran in the event!
